hospital

Mr Vishen Dias, a student from Level 3 of the Faculty of Technology of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka  together with two undergraduates from Rajarata University and the SLIIT, developed a novel remotely operated robot named VOTEX2020 and donated it to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in May 2020. The robot was designed to help medical staff to minimize contact with Covid—19 patients while serving them inside the ward by delivering medical and food supplies via the remote controlled robot navigated from the nurse station to patient beds. The robot has the capacity to deliver goods weighing up to 20 kg and it is equipped with a remote and a camera to facilitate the medical staff to safely navigate the system. Dr Harshani Ubeysekara, the Deputy Director of the hospital admired the timely innovation and donation.
